Curran: Aircraft Noise Roundtable Schedule Should be Expedited

Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook – 21st A.D.) this morning expressed his concern over Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement to have aviation community roundtable discussions about the noise pollution from New York City airports John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia International Airports at panels that have not yet been announced.

Curran recently attended meetings on the issue, but there was no public information or schedule on the “to be announced” roundtables.  According to a press release from Governor Cuomo’s office, roundtables are said to be coming in April.

“While I am pleased with the governor’s actions to ensure the Port Authority conducts a Part 150 study and appreciate the Authority’s appearance in Malverne to give a presentation on the study, I - like many residents -remain disappointed that after five months, the Port Authority is still unable to provide a definitive schedule for roundtable conversations," said Assemblyman Curran.

Additionally, Curran also expressed frustration at the continued delay for "the retention of a consulting firm for the Part 150 study, and commencing the two separate Part 150 studies for JFK and LaGuardia airports.

”On Monday, March 24, Governor Cuomo directed the Port Authority to take “a multifaceted, comprehensive series of actions in coordination with local communities to address noise issues,” at the two airports.  As part of the new approach, the Port Authority will double the number of noise monitors, establish aviation community roundtables and conduct extensive studies of noise issues for residents of Queens, the Bronx and Nassau County.

“My hope is that the Authority will quickly release a public and transparent schedule so that residents of Queens, the Bronx and Nassau County can attend, ask questions, and express their concerns over this issue,” concluded Assemblyman Curran.
