On Saturday, May 3, 2014, Renaissance Home Health Care and Adult Day Services, which provides in-home and in-location care that promotes social, physical, and emotional well-being to residents of all five NY boroughs, participated in the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Association’s annual NYC “Walk to Defeat ALS”.  The ALS Association works to improve the lives of those stricken by ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, as well as their families and raises funds for research that is crucial to finding a cure. Valley Stream, NY resident, Jamie Luchs, is a Social Worker and Intake Supervisor for Renaissance. The Renaissance Walk Team walked in memory of Jonathan Weinberg, the younger brother of Luchs. Jonathan passed away just under a year ago from ALS.

Team Renaissance was proudly represented by 22 members at the event who showed their support by contributing to the Team’s fund, which has raised $5,444.00 to date of the over $331,000 raised for the ALS Association of Greater New York.

Luchs, whose brother the Renaissance Team walked in memory of said, “It felt amazing to be united with my Renaissance family for such a good cause.  I am so proud of what we achieved.”

Elsa Berrios, Social Model Director for the Bedford Renaissance Adult Day Services in Brooklyn works closely with Jamie. “It wasn’t just a team effort; it was bigger than that.  When I crossed the finish line, I felt like I had really made a difference for people suffering from ALS,” she said.
