Studying the Human Body

Through a collaborative effort between art teacher Michael Christie and classroom teacher Natasha Mattera, first-graders at Lynbrook’s West End School conducted an interdisciplinary study of the human body. Students used their combined skills in English language arts, mathematics, science, health and art to study the growth and development of the human body. The students began by creating life-size diagrams of their own bodies. They labeled the diagrams with parts of the body, recorded their actual measurements and included information about how to take care of their bodies. The completed body diagrams were hung in the hallway to celebrate the wonder of the human body.
