Super Writers Club

Lynbrook kindergartners recently participated in a Super Writers Club celebration, presenting their completed works of informational writing to their classmates. Students shared their knowledge of subjects such as Disney characters, superheroes and selling Girl Scout cookies using a combination of words and illustrations, depending on their level of writing ability. After each presentation, classmates offered input about what they liked about each piece of writing.

In the Writing Workshop model, each element of the writing process is presented as a mini-lesson. In each mini-lesson, the teacher reads a mentor text that illustrates a specific aspect or skill that students should incorporate in their writing. An anchor chart summarizes the main points and gives students guidelines to follow in their writing. Students complete several rounds of researching, writing and editing before producing their finished works.
