Technology-Driven Exploration of Explorers
In a recent social studies lesson, fourth-graders in Theresa D’Amato’s class at West End School in Lynbrook used technology to enhance their study of explorers. The students were given a graphic organizer and a list of websites to visit to research information on several explorers. They worked in groups to find information about the year each explorer set out, the country the explorer sailed for, what he was looking for and what he found. The students used laptops to do their research in groups of two or three. Finally, students joined in a group discussion with their teacher to share their findings and reflect upon the significance of what each explorer found during his travels.
