Wavery Park Little Doctors Blood Drive

With the help of their fifth-grade classmates, fourth- and fifth-grade student council members at Lynbrook’s Waverly Park School organized the annual Little Doctors blood drive. Students worked for weeks, soliciting volunteers and promoting the event. On the big day, fifth-graders, dressed in hospital scrubs, greeted donors, helped with paperwork, escorted them to each station, and made sure they were replenished with a healthy snack and drink before leaving. These hardworking students assembled 65 registered donors, collecting 41 pints of life-saving blood, nearly double the amount collected last year. Students worked under the direction of faculty advisers Shari Bowes and Jessica Ryan.

“We are so proud of our fifth-graders and our student council for publicizing this event and recruiting family members, neighbors and friends,” said Ms. Bowes. “We look forward to making next year’s blood drive bigger and better.”
