#80- Enjoy Free Outdoor Entertainment

West Hempstead is home to free community concerts and movie screenings in the summer.

What's better than spending an evening in the beautiful outdoors tapping, clapping and singing to live music? Doing it for free.

At the Town of Hempstead ball field adjacent to in West Hempstead, residents can enjoy the fresh air and free concerts along with friends and neighbors during the summer months.

This year's lineup includes the Wonderous Stories, who will be performing hits from British bands such as the Beatles and the Who on July 21, and Vintage Elvis, who will play some of the King's classic songs on Aug. 2.

The space is also used during the summertime to hold free movie nights and other events for families. On July 28 (at 1 p.m.) kids can come here to be both entertained and educated by performers Kathy Byers and Lydia Adams Davis, whose "One Earth, So Green and Round" show teaches about recycling, animal habits, global warming and environmental awareness.  The duo use amusing wild animal hand puppets, humorous story songs and audience participation to make the lesson fun for all. And it's free too!

The ballfield at Echo Park should definitely be on your list of things to do in Malverne and West Hempstead (It made ours!) during the summer.
