Another Snowfall Slated For Saturday Could Bring 4 Inches

Snow will be falling again by Saturday, experts said.

Saturday will bring yet another snowfall to the region, with up to four inches across Long Island and New York City, according to the National Weather Service.

According to Joey Picca of the National Weather Service office at Upton, snow is expected for the first half of Saturday, with two to four inches expected to fall between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. across Long Island and New York City.

Temperatures will start off in the lower 20s around Westhampton Beach, with highs in the mid 30s across the region and in New York.

The snow is slated to clear out from west to east, beginning to dry up in New York City by early afternoon and early evening on the East End.

Sunday could bring a "quick shot" of some flurries but no measurable accumulation, and is expected to be mostly dry, according to the NWS.

Is the town going to plow secondary roads today? my wife just got stuck turning from kimberly onto fifith avenue today
Michelle February 14, 2014 at 10:44 AM
The town needs to do a better job of plowing and sanding secondary roads. They are horrible. They also need to plow the village streets and parking lot much better. Parking in town is ridiculous to begin with when there isnt snow and now the poorly plowed lots are making less parking spaces and affecting local businesses. The town needs to get their act together and do whats right!

Miss William Naughton yet?
Americanivory February 14, 2014 at 12:14 PM
Please TOB Highway - do you check the credentials, or the ability to actually use the plow, for the private contractors hired? We have a total idiot assigned to our street on School Dr., PJS that does not know how to use the plow - the road is bumpy from his inability to control the plow, he pushes the snow right to the end of the road and leaves it there - so you have to drive over this large hump of snow to get to the main road. And of course, he pushes the snow into the driveways - I know I know they all plow the snow and it ends up at the apron - but this guy actually pushes the snow up into the apron not just at the edge. Almost as if on purpose. Come on Mr. LoSquadro, we appreciate that we are having our streets plowed but can you ensure they know what they are doing? One last item, is the Town wants folks with Fire Hydrants on their property to clear the snow away - really? After your idiots have piled so much snow on them we can't even tell where the hydrant is - if you want us to clear them, then mandate the plowers DO NOT pile snow on top of them.
localguy February 14, 2014 at 01:42 PM
Kudos to the Smithtown Highway guys and girls......fantastic job again. Now if you can only find a way to "remove" the snow instead of plowing it to the sides and into the driveway ......
Phil Konigsberg February 14, 2014 at 03:15 PM
Come on Patch - you're going to lose many readers if you don't control the distribution of your local neighborhood listings. I can feel for those on the East End of Long Island - we're all on the same island, but I'm in Northeast Queens and I'm interested in reading the news that is more focused on where we live and not in Suffolk County. @Americanivory: No matter what area we live in the person responsible for covering the fire hydrants with snow should have the riot act thrown at them. Lives are at risk when someone does that. If you live in multiple housing units, as many do, multiple lives are put in jeopardy! Anyway, let's all get ready for the next batch of snowfall tonight into tomorrow morning.

I think the TOH did a fantastic job this time around. The village was even better! @concerned citizen, put some winter tires on your wife's car.
Marilyn February 14, 2014 at 05:29 PM
Just what we need more snow! The Town of Oyster Bay did a great job last time on the main roads but on my hilly road, they did a horrible job. On another note, I agree with Phil Konigsberg! I want only Plainview news.....

Funny how the forecasters never meantion that this entire mess is due to Climate Change. The kids should be educated more on this so they can teach their parents what we are headed for as the years progress. BTW what happened to naming each snowstorm..all of a sudden the media quit this stupid process. We are letting the media control our way of thinking.
Darren Gengarelly Sr. February 15, 2014 at 09:43 AM
Climate change has been a constant for millions of years. Core samples were taken from over four hundred feet below the north pole. An interesting fact from those samples was palm tree leaves were found in the sample. So the north pole has been warm before? Must have been the caveman's carbon footprint.. You Justin should educate yourself. Propaganda is fogging your thought process.

With the Brookhaven HWY Dept. operating with $720, 000 Dollars LESS this season, can 'Dandy Dan', sttrrrretch what he has left in his 2014 Capital Budget ???? As we have seen, he is already blaming his Predecessor MICHAEL V MURPHY, for the HWY Salt Storage collapse...WHY THEN IN MICHAEL V. MURPHY STILL ON THE TOWN, HIGHWAY DEPT. PAYROLL ? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CDIQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.scribd.com%2Fdoc%2F175528703%2FSeeThroughNY-Payroll-Towns-MICHAEL-V-MURPHY-HIGHWAY-SUPERVISOR-TOWN-OF-BROOKHAVEN-HIGHWAY-DEPT&ei=dJH_Ur7YM8mwyQGHlYHQDw&usg=AFQjCNGEvka3N77ts4I1OI-gU2at7xvLnA&sig2=S7ehC2eWv_81ux_xki27aw

Darren, last time I checked, this is a free country, and I am entitled to disagree with you, therefore, because that, it necessarily does not mean I have to educate myself to bring myself to your thoughts on the subject. We are in a climate change, it will get worse, and our kids should be so informed. Scarey, but factual.

Phil Konigsberg February 15, 2014 at 04:01 PM
@Darren G. Sr,: If anyone needs education on global warming/climate change, your above comment clearly shows your comment should be self-directed. I have Justin's back here along with thousands of others who are not gullible to the climate change deniers such as the pugnacious Congressman Michael Grimm of Staten Island and the US Senator from Oklahoma James Imhofe. Here is some information on a recent study that indicates CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE OF MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING: While some have argued that global warming is merely a natural trend, new conclusive evidence gathered from the geological record in the Arctic prove that the increasing temperatures are not a natural cycle and are indeed caused by human activity, mainly, the burning of fossil fuels. Darrell S. Kaufman , a leading climatologist from Northern Arizona University, lead a team of researchers who collected tree rings, glacier ice samples, 14 ice cores from various lakes around the Arctic and other evidence that showed a clear trend, that temperatures in the Arctic did not begin to rise until the Industrial Revolution hit which is when we began to empty tons of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The past ten years has shown a sharper increase almost three times higher than any other period in the past 2,000 years. So what about the arguments that this warming is just a natural trend? Because the Earth has been slowly tilting the Arctic away from the sun, the region should actually be a degree or so cooler. That would be the natural trend, for the gradual cooling of the Arctic not a warming as some naysayers have suggested. But instead, the Arctic temperatures have increased by more than a couple of degrees. This evidence is also strengthened by the shrinking ice and high melt rate found in Arctic regions as well. With such overwhelming evidence, many are starting to realize that Global Warming deniers are clearly not motivated by the facts but are motivated by a personal, and profitable, agenda that has nothing to do with looking out for the best interest of the public.

Climate Change or as most normal people call it; Weather.
brookhavenconfucius February 15, 2014 at 05:03 PM
They can talk until they are BLUE, 'climate change' is a SCAM. It proves that Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Darren Gengarelly Sr. February 15, 2014 at 05:30 PM
Natural cycles Phil. Its not that hard to say. I remember watching a commercial in the early seventies. A young boy was warning me that if we kept burning so much gas that we would cease to exist in twenty years. People like you Phil remind me of that propaganda filled crap. Oh where did you get weather reports from 2000 tears ago? I cant find them.
Phil Konigsberg February 15, 2014 at 06:21 PM
Who are "people like me"? Who said anything about weather reports of 2000 years ago? It's called science. I tend to believe what the scientific community has to say about this issue, not people who deny what is facing us if we as a society do not adjust. Unfortunately, politics has become a big part of this discourse and it shouldn't be. With the big oil and gas companies doing what they can to put off clean and renewable energy initiatives this "debate" will continue for longer than it should - hopefully before it's too late for the next generation.
Phil Konigsberg February 15, 2014 at 06:23 PM
correction from above: hopefully before it's NOT too late for the next generation.

If I believed the scientific assessment of our oceans 30 years ago I would have quit fishing.....but they were wrong then and they are wrong today to believe what you hear from the media/scientists is foolish I go by what I see with my own 2 eyes and feel with my 2 hands....made millions not listening to those Azzols...u can believe all u want....phooll...uh..phill
Phil Konigsberg February 16, 2014 at 02:52 PM
@scallop scum: I won't agree with you on the statement that to believe the media/scientists is foolish - we all know that they are prone to make mistakes - but I will give more credence to them than the politically motivated and/or big industry 1%ers who don't care about what's down the road - just what can I get now. That being said, I do respect someone who apparently walks the talk as you have indicated you've experienced in the fishing industry. Just a thought, and with very limited knowledge in this area, could the eastern waters where you make your living be in a much better region of our ocean waters than other less fortunate regions?
Conservative Underground February 16, 2014 at 02:58 PM
50 years ago they said we would all have flying cars. 30 years ago they said the planet was cooling and we were heading into a new ice age. 20 years ago they said we would be out of oil in...20 years.
scallop scum February 16, 2014 at 03:04 PM
I have learned there is money to be made crying the sky is falling...and cry they will go online and research bottom trawling, you will "learn" from various eco groups the horror and devistation put upon the ocean floor and they will impart their knowledge of how the sea floor never recovers and becomes barren......then go to mtk and watch the inshore draggers make the same tows they have been making for 50+ years....remember CHICKEN LITTLE IS AN ASS
