Application for Proposed Taxi Dispatch Center in East Meadow Withdrawn

Joseph Piscitello, who was planning to purchase the property, said that the withdrawal from the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals was in the best interest of the community.

The application for a proposed taxi dispatch center on Clearmeadow Drive and Hempstead Turnpike was officially withdrawn from the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals on Wednesday.

Richard Bivone, the developmental consultant of Joseph Piscitello, who was planning to buy of the property at 2279 Clearmeadow Drive, said that Piscitello believed that the withdrawal was in the best interest of the community after he heard the concerns of residents at a public forum on Monday.

"We thought it was the best thing to do," Bivone said.

During the community meeting at Nassau University Medical Center, residents said that the proposed dispatch center would threaten the safety of their children, increase traffic and bring down the property value of the area.

"We will not go any further," Bivone said. "The contract was cancelled with the seller and is no longer valid."

Thank you for clarifying that Susan and Paul. I don't believe the clubs are over capacity Paul. I frequent both because I know many who work there and the working partners. Parking spaces is a major issue for Aura, however, I agree with the safety aspect of cabs being readily available in that lot. There has been many evenings I've seen people stumble from the bar and into a car. It's scary!!

Also, Rita's closed before the club even started filling up. There was never a conflict of interest with Rita's. Sonic however would have been open until 2-4am knowing club had potential customers.

There are always cabs available at this location as well as other locations where alcohol is served. That is not a new concept... The person would still need to have a cab summoned and willing to get in it. A taxi stand in that lot is not a good business decision. The hospital and jail operate 24/7 and is where the need would be for a taxi/car service stand or depot..... Not blocks away....... To those who say oh my gosh the cars will be driving through Clearmeadow drive, guess what, a cab going to the hospital is not a new concept. Either they drive there now or go another route........ To many turns and curvy streets to be a direct route from where-ever...... If the plans for that site on Clearmeadow, oops I mean Hempstead Turnpike, were actually read and deciphered it may not be a bad as one has been guessing. It would be an asset to the hospital, its workers and visitors etc..... It is just up the block..... Where is the issue???

And you are wrong about that too. There were very definite hours of operation planned and they did not include early morning hours. Did you ever even attend a meeting about Sonic? Where are you getting this 'info' from??

To Charles: OK now we know you are friends with Mr. Aura/Zachery... There was no major conflict for hours of operation.... You mean to tell me that within the proper lot where Aura is located and the other side near Homedepot (club goers already park there) that he does not have enough spots. Pa'lease...... You really know less than I thought......
