Longtime media personality and Lynbrook native Alan Colmes, who is best known for co-hosting a hit primetime Fox News political show as a liberal voice for a dozen years, will be returning to his backyard on Wednesday evening to speak at his alma mater, Hofstra University.

Colmes will be speaking to the Hofstra community about his career as a broadcaster and writer as part of the university's 75th anniversary celebration. The Lynbrook High School graduate co-hosted co-hosted the Fox News program Hannity & Colmes from October 1996 to January 2009 serving as the liberal voice on the show against conservative Sean Hannity. The 1971 Hofstra graduate authored the book Red, White and Liberal: How Left is Right and Right is Wrong. He currently hosts The Alan Colmes Show on Fox News Radio.

Colmes, who now lives in Manhattan and has a small beach house in Long Beach, said Hofstra has always had a special place in his heart, given the fact that he grew up only a short drive away from the Hempstead campus. “I'm proud of how Hofstra has grown since my time there, and that it's been able to do so in spite of me being an alumnus,” joked Colmes, who did some work as a standup comedian in the 1970’s before entering broadcasting. “I'm grateful for the opportunity to speak on campus.”

Colmes will speak at Hofstra starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Rochelle and Irwin A. Lowenfeld Conference and Exhibition Hall, which is located on the 10th floor of the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library on the university’s South Campus. The speech is sponsored by the Hofstra School of Communication. Admission is free.
