Friends of the Lynbrook Library to Hold Annual Book Sale

Three-day event raises funds for library programs.

Get set for the annual Friends of the Lynbrook Library book sale, set to take place today, tomorrow and Saturday during regular library hours.

The sale usually raises about $1,000 for the organization, which uses it to help the library pay for different services.

“Some of that money will be used to pay for the children’s summer reading club party at the end of the summer,” said Carol Donaldson, president of the Friends of the Lynbrook Library.

The money will also go toward purchasing museum passes that patrons can borrow for free, just like any other item from the library. The library has two passes to the Old Westbury Gardens – each pass allows two adults and two children; there is one pass to the Intrepid Sea and Air and Space Museum, which allows up to six people; and there is one pass to the Long Island Children’s Museum, which allows up to four patrons.

The books that are on sale come from the library’s collection, as well as donations from the community.

“This year we have a lot of beautiful sports books that were donated,” Donaldson said. “We also have fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, audio books and cookbooks that are very popular.”

Paperbacks are on sale, three for a dollar, and are perfect for a beach read.

The sale will take place upstairs in the meeting room in the old part of the library.

The book sale will be manned by Friends of the Lynbrook Library volunteers. And more volunteers are needed. If you are interested, leave your name and number at the library desk.

The Friends of the Lynbrook Library is now enjoying its 28th year and has done many projects for the library over the years.

“The latest really nice thing we did was the outdoor children’s reading garden,” Donaldson said. “That was a big project. We worked with the DPW, who did all the work; we paid for the benches and the bricks. We also recently bought new furniture for the children’s room.”

The book sale will be open to the public on the following dates:

  • Thursday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
