Whether you’re in the mood to have cocktails with your girlfriends or take the family out to a show, there is plenty to do around town this weekend.
On Friday, Earth Arts will host a Ladies Night out at 6 p.m. on West Park Avenue in Long Beach. for details. The monthly event invites local women to come in with their friends, socialize, and create a piece of art. Ladies night is BYOB, but the staff at Earth Arts will serve a complementary spread of chips, dips, fruits and sweets.
“We provide a relaxing atmosphere that is different from the local bars or night clubs, and everyone leaves the place happy,” said Earth Arts owner Michelle Kelly. At the end of the night, Kelly plans to raffle off a piece of pottery that the winner can come back another time to paint.
If you’re looking for some musical entertainment, Temple Emanu El in Long Beach is holding An Evening of Swing and Jazz Classics on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (). The holiday fundraiser will feature The Mike Rubenstein Jazz Orchestra and The Bomzer Quintet. All funds raised will support the temple’s children’s programs and religious school. Finally, to end the weekend with a family outing, check out the Sunday School Christmas Pageant at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Lynbrook on Sunday at 10 a.m. (http://lynbrook.patch.com/events/category/art-entertainment). This year’s play titled, "And A Star Will Light Your Way" will portray the story of the first Christmas from the perspective of the animals.
“It's a fun event for everyone involved,” said Rebecca Fetters of the Sunday school. “The kids love to get up in front of the church and share the Christmas story in their own way and the grown-ups love watching them.” Fetters added that the production will star about 20 children ranging in age from toddlers to middle school students. She added, “What could be cuter than little kids dressed up in animal, shepherd and wise men costumes?”
