Hall's Pond in West Hempstead Frozen by Record-Low Temps

Strong winds are making it dangerously cold outside.

Dangerously cold weather combined with high winds has struck the region.

It's so cold that Hall's Pond in West Hempstead is now an ice-covered pond, though a few parts remain unfrozen.

In Malverne and West Hempstead, highs are expected to be 13 degrees Tuesday. However, it really feels like -10 degrees because of wind gusts as high as 44 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Don't expect things to get much warmer right away, however.  Expect wind chill values as low as -9 tonight, followed by 23 degree temperatures Wednesday with wind chill values as low as -6. Things are expected to warm up on Thursday, with highs near 34, the National Weather Service says.
