Historical Society Marks Milestone, Inducts Officers
The new board was sworn in as the Malverne Historical Society celebrated 15th anniversary of Restoration home.
Although the Malverne Historical Society was formed to preserve the village's past, it made its own history on Sunday when it celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Joseph L. Landers Memorial Restoration home.
Although the society was started in 1986 by Keith Rossein, it wasn't until 1996 that it received a proper place to showcase the many artifacts that tell the story of Malverne. That year, Jeanne L. Landers made a generous donation to the society, which enabled them to purchase a white house on Ocean Avenue that dates back to 1854. The house, which became the society's headquarters and a museum of Malverne's history, was named after her late husband, Joseph, a village resident of 43 years who was very active in the community.
The society members gathered at the home on June 12 to celebrate this milestone and induct its new officers for the upcoming year.
