Hundreds Come to Fly With the Owls

About 700 attend annual Run/Walk to raise money for Lynbrook community.

Lynbrook's annual Fly With the Owls 4-Mile Run/Walk fundraiser was held on Saturday. Seven-hundred participants from Lynbrook, neighboring communities, even New York City, took part in the event.

The participants bundled up for the chilly morning, which began at 8 a.m. Water was handed out throughout the race, and free massages and chiropractic adjustments were available at the end of it.

The money raised — $27,000 this year — goes to help various organizations in the community. In past years, money has been donated to the Lynbrook Fire Department, Ambulance Corp., the middle school's Triathlon Mentoring Program, and a scholarship for Lynbrook High School graduates.

The event is coordinated by Cathy Papandrew, a member of the Lynbrook Board of Education.

In addition to the fundraising efforts, the Lynbrook High School Leadership Club collected canned goods for local food pantries. Also, Barrett's Girl Scout Troop set up a booth to educate people on saving the environment.
