Malverne Mel Predicts Early Spring

Long Island groundhog predicts an end to the frigid temps.

It's going to be an early spring!

Malverne Mel did not see his shadow this foggy Groundhog Day, signifying an early end to the frigid weather.

Mel's prediction mirrored that of Holtsville Hal but he disagreed with both Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck, who predicted six more weeks of winter.

Malverne Mel and Staten Island Chuck hold a calculated 56 percent accuracy of predicting the weather, compared to Holtsville Hal's 60 percent and ahead of Punxsutawney Phil's 44 percent, according to Newsday.

Last year, Mel saw his shadow.
