Nassau Land Trust Announces New Name of Grossmann's

The farm will now be called "Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's."

After a much anticipated wait, the Grossmann’s Farm will be renamed “Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s,” according to a press release from the Nassau Land Trust on Friday.

“The Grossmann family was quite clear that since they no longer own the farm, they don’t want it to be named Grossmann’s, but they are pleased that the new name connects to its past,” said Lloyd Zuckerberg, who is Chairman of the Nassau Land Trust, in the release.

The Nassau Land Trust has been managing the county owned land, which was acquired under the 2006 Environmental Bond. The farmed had been maintained and farmed by the Grossman family since the late 1800s. It is the only remaining farm in the Malverne area of Nassau County and its farmer, Bill Walsh, has introduced organic produce to the operations, the Nassau Land Trust said.

Andrea Panaritis, a Malverne resident and co-chair of the Farm Subcommittee, explained in the release that they had “bounced around literally two dozen different names” around before coming up with Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s.

“Many of the folks in the room, all of whom were members of the Farm Subcommittee, felt quite passionate about their own suggestions, but in the end, we all agreed that this name best represents our objective for this regional treasure,” she added.

Another Farm Subcommittee member, Pennie Schwartz, said in the release that they “felt that this beloved local farm is physically and spiritually at a crossroads, in that it sits at the intersection of two main roads.”

Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s will be open this weekend, but closed on the Fourth of July. For additional information on the farm, please visit www.nassaulandtrust.org
