No. 84 — Patriots Weekend and the Centennial/Memorial Day Parade

No. 84 in the Patch series, “,” is to go check out the village's Patriots Weekend and the Centennial/Memorial Day Parade this weekend.

Memorial Day is a time to honor the memories of those who fought — and those currently fighting — for our country.

This Sunday, Lynbrook is having its annual Patriots Weekend and will have a Centennial/Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30.

If you’re a Lynbrook resident, the Memorial Day parade is always worth watching. Since we are celebrating the village's 100th anniversary this year, there is even more reason to come out and support our village, and all the organizations that will have the honor of marching in this very special parade this year.

Children and grown-ups alike will enjoy watching the school bands, fire department, police department, Little League, girl scouts, boy scouts, and so much more. So get out those folding chairs, pack up the family and get a good seat, as you will not want to miss the kick-off of summer at the spectacular Centennial/Memorial Day Parade.

The parade will start on Monday at 9:45 a.m. at Charles Street and end on Columbus Drive, with a ceremony at the Dough Boy Monument after the parade.

Residents are then welcome to go to on Merrick Road for a free BBQ; there will be a DJ and also games for the children.

If you want to start the party early, head out on Sunday, May 29 for the Patriots Weekend celebration that will be taking place at , sponsored by .

Festivities will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a masking of the colors at the Gazebo. The Mayor’s Picnic will be from 3–7:30 p.m. Musical entertainment will be going on from the Lynbrook High School Jazz Band, Plaza Dance Studio, USO Girls, and music by Thomas Luckert and the Long Island Banjo.

Inflatable rides for the children will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be a magic show from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Gazebo. A softball game will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The festivities will end with a Centennial Fireworks Display at around 9 p.m.

With this great line-up of entertainment there is no better time or a better place to celebrate your Memorial Day weekend.
