Tell Us: Texting Pit Stops Planned for Long Island

New Text Stops announced for New York State but none in Nassau. Were we snubbed?

Officials are creating a new way to prevent distracted driving accidents in New York.

As tickets for texting and other distracted driving offenses skyrocketed by 365 percent this year compared to 2012, officials are rolling out 91 Texting Zones along major highways.

The zones will allow drivers to pull over in designated areas where they can park and safely text without risking getting into an accident.

Of the zones planned, only two will be put on Long Island in Suffolk County. Both will be placed on the Long Island Expressway in Huntington.

Do you use any highways in Nassau County that could use a text stop? Are you disappointed none are planned for Nassau County? What do you think of the Texting Zone plan overall? Do you think it will bring down texting and driving rates? Tell us in the comments.
