A tree planting ceremony was held on Oct. 17 to celebrate the memory of Alexander Huertas, a student at the Davison Avenue Intermediate School who tragically passed away over the summer.
With Davison Avenue families gathered around the tree in solidarity with the Huertas family, PTA president Toni Loccisano opened the ceremony with a poem titled “Young Life Cut Short.”
Students gathered around the tree to complete the planting. The dirt that they shoveled around the tree was mixed with pixie dust, in reference to a quote from “Peter Pan” that said, “All it takes in faith and trust … and a little bit of pixie dust. Now, think of the happiest things. It’s the same as having wings.”
“So many people have come up to me to tell me what a special person Alex was," said Davison Avenue Principal Edward Tallon, who presided over the dedication.
"May this tree, which was planted in his memory, be a source of strength and hope and inspiration for us all."
