A piece of twisted steel recovered from the site of the World Trade Center disaster was picked up from John F. Kennedy Airport Wednesday and delivered via an official escort of police and fire vehicles to West Hempstead. It will be used in a future memorial to the 12 West Hempstead residents and others who lost their lives in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
After touring the Lakeview and West Hempstead communities, the steel finally came to its new temporary home, the library at , where it will wait while the memorial it's to be a part of is constructed.
