3-D Pumpkin Carving, Costume Parade, Fall Festivals and More Weekend Plans

See what's happening around the neighborhood this weekend.

You don’t have to trek into the city and shell out hundreds to see some great theater. This weekend, there are some wonderful performances taking place close to home including Annie Get Your Gun. The 1946 iconic musical inspired by the life of sharpshooting Annie Oakley comes to the BroadHollow Theater at Elmont (700 Hempstead Tnpk.) on Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. and Sunday Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m( $28 tickets.) The BroadHollow Theater also presents Pinkaliciousa children’s show based on the popular book series of the same name written by Victoria and Elizabeth Kahn, on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. ($10  tickets).

This time of year is all about fall festivals and there’s many taking place this weekend in our area including a Family Fishing and Children’s Festival Saturday at  in West Hempstead. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m. there will be fly-fishing instruction, casting practice, fish-cleaning services and more. (Permits are waived for day.)  Plus, kids can decorate pumpkins, ride ponies and enjoy other activities including the beautiful old-fashioned carousel. ( $6 admission for ages 12 and older plus parking. 

If you want to pick up a fall plant or pie while your kids enjoy facepainting, pumpkin and cookie decorating, scarecrow-making and games, then head to the Fall Fair at (400 Hempstead Ave.) in Malverne on Oct. 15  at 11 a.m.  Then, stop at , (200 Hempstead Ave.) for Country Fair Day, which runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. There, you can find a pumpkin patch, pony rides, food, Granny's Attic, which offers one-of-a-kind gifts, and entertainment for everyone.

Washington Street Elementary School in Franklin Square (760 Washington St). is also hosting a Fall Festival Saturday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m, to benefit the school. They will have games, prizes, hair braiding, face painting, a Spook-Walk, craft vendors, and refreshments. Then, if you are still in the spirit of all things autumn, there’s another fair Sunday too at(446 Demott Ave) in Rockville Centre beginning at 11 a.m.

Or if you can’t wait till Oct. 31 to break out your costume, Long Beach is holding its annualHalloween Costume Parade this Saturday at noon on Magnolia Boulevard and W. Bay Drive. The parade begins at  and ends in Kennedy Plaza, where there will be - yes, you guessed it - a Fall Festival!  Children in costume will get a treat filled bag and passes for a free swim at the recreation center’s pool and free skating session at the ice arena. And for something a little out of the ordinary this Halloween, Hicks’ Nursery (100 Jericho Tnpk.) in Westbury is hosting an awesome 3-D Pumpkin-Carving Show featuring artist Andy Gertler from the Travel Channel show “Sand Masters.” He’ll even show you how to create your own pumpkin masterpiece during demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Finally, if you are all wiped out all these fall activities, relax at  (200 Cedarhurst Ave.) Saturday night, where the village is hosting an Outdoor Movie Night at 8 p.m., showing the belovedMary Poppins. And it’s free!
