#97 - See Stars at Malverne's Unique Cinema

To see the latest blockbuster film on the big screen you could go to any major multiplex in the area. To explore works of art, foreign releases and many of the films that will take home awards at the Oscars this Sunday (and in the future), look no further than .

While it does show some mainstream films, Malverne Cinema 4 plays mostly independent, foreign and unreleased movies on six small screens.

Henry Stampfel, the current president of the Malverne Merchants and Professionals Association, and his family own and operate the cinema, which has become a staple in the village, and one other location in Bellmore.

Many outsiders over the years have come to know the small, quiet village of Malverne because of its unique movie theater.

Many times when independent or "artsy" movies are released to a limited audience, Malverne Cinema 4 is one of the few places on Long Island to find these films.

For instance, many of the movies currently nominated for Academy Awards, including , Black Swan and The King's Speech could be viewed here while bigger theaters waited for these flicks to gain popularity or never offered them at all.
