Malverne Mel, Long Island’s first furry prognosticator will return on Thursday,  February 2nd to give his 2012 forecast.

Will it be an early spring or six more weeks of winter?

Starting at 7 a.m. at the gazebo by the Malverne  Train Station in the quaint Village of Malverne, there will be a flurry of activities for children and adults including music by the Banjo Rascals, balloons, a Malverne Mel poster contest, Party Marty, Malverne Mel himself and his furry, petting zoo friends, along with our local  trustees.

State and local government officials will don their top hats while Mayor Patricia McDonald will encourage Mel to leave his cozy hutch and translate from “ground-hog-ese”, Mel’s weather forecast.  Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served at the Malverne Historical House which is walking distance from Mel’s hutch.

Join your favorite team:  “Team Early Spring” or “Team 6 More Weeks of Winter” at this fun-filled event and be sure to bring your camera and take photos with Mel’s buddy, our costumed ground-hog mascot.
