Waverly Park School Presents a "Mock Trial"

Students will be debating the essential question, "Based on their contributions, were the Native Americans or the Europeans more worthy of ownership of New York?" Students will act as lawyers and experts based on their topics, and they will present supporting evidence (documents, political cartoons, and video clips) that they researched.

Two of the video clips even include a reader's theater performed by the students. Mrs. McAssey, our principal, will act as our judge. However, our students' job will be to convince the jury (their parents) that their side made more contributions. The jury will decide the winner of the trial.

This incorporates the new Common Core Standards; we have infused ELA across the content areas. It addresses English Language Arts, Social Studies, Technology, Music, Art, & Physical Education.
