Family and Children’s Association Accepting Back to School Items

The following information was submitted by the Family & Children’s Association.

Mineola-based non-profit Family & Children’s Association will be accepting donations of new back-to-school supplies and clothing for area families in need.

Families like the Reade family that lost their mother during a recent childbirth.  Her 24 year old daughter stepped in to be the caretaker of her 11 siblings, ages 2 to 20, to ensure the family could stay together and avert entering foster care.

This young woman is juggling the responsibilities of meeting the varied needs of her brothers and sisters, managing the household duties of cooking, cleaning and laundry, all while holding down a full-time job, where she earns minimum wage.

Family & Children’s Association is asking everyone to consider donating gift cards to mass retailers, sneakers, sweatshirts and jeans along with the pencils, backpacks and notebooks they’ve given in the past.
