West Hempstead Residents Pass $55.6 Million School Budget

"Yes" votes nearly double "no" votes as budget is passed.

West Hempstead residents passed the 2013-14 school budget Tuesday.

The $55.6 million budget passed by a final margin of 793 to 428.

The budget-to-budget increase for the budget is 0.88 percent, according to Superintendent John Hogan, who also said that the district is at its tax cap limit of 3.55 percent.

All four candidates for the West Hempstead Board of Education were either elected or re-elected after running unopposed.

Karen Brohm and Rudolf Schindler were both re-elected to their seats, while Vincent Trochhia was elected for the one-year and 41-day balance of Walter Enjes' vacated seat and Jennifer Kurko was elected to the seat vacated by Cynthia Di Miceli.
