#64: Celebrate Fall at Malverne Festival and Car Show

The annual event will feature many fun activities this Sunday.

Where can you see dogs dressed up in Halloween costumes, admire classic cars, participate in a scavenger hunt, be dazzled by dancers and enter your best apple pie in a bake-off?

At the annual Malverne Fall Festival, which takes place Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can enjoy these activities and more while connecting with fellow community members.

Growing up in Malverne, I can remember looking forward to the festival - then known as the Country Fair - all year long. It's a great way to savor the beautiful fall weather with friends while shopping the local craft and jewelry vendors, indulging in yummy fair treats and taking part in the unique festivities. There truly is something for everyone here. Kids will love the face-painting, scavenger hunt, rides and pumpkin picking. Adults can check out the vintage rides on display and learn about local merchants and vendors who set up tables and tents along the parking lot that stretches from Associated supermarket to Connolly Station. (And ofcourse, they can stop inside the pub for cold one or even a bite to eat while checking the football scores.)

And everyone will enjoy the dance performances, bake-off and pet parade and costume contest.

The fair is sponsored by the Malverne Merchants and Professionals Association and the Malverne Civic Association.

Here is a schedule of the day's events, which are subject to change.

  • Pumpkin Patch: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Photo Shoot: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Bake-off: Judging at 3 p.m. ( A prize will be award in each category: Quick breads, Cupcakes and Pies. Entries are to be dropped off at the Malverne Civic Association table between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.)
  • Tap to Pointe Dancers Perform: 1 p.m.
