#96 - Eat at Beckmann's Delicatessen

This popular deli has been around since 1942.

Our fifth installment in the "100 Things to Do in Lynbrook" is to check out , located at 171 Union Avenue since 1942.

If you live here in Lynbrook, by now you must have heard of this famous delicatessen. If not, this is a place you must go and visit.

As a child I remember the original owners, Mr. and Mrs. Beckmann. They lived in the house next door. Beckmann’s was bought in 1974 by the present owners, Herbie and Carl, who are permanent fixtures. You can count on one of the two of them to be there at all times. This is a place where you are known by name and always welcomed with a smile. Many of my neighbor’s sons have worked in this establishment and still come back to help out from time to time.

I do not think that I have ever had a better egg sandwich than what you can get here! It’s a great treat before work, school or a great weekend breakfast to go pick up. At certain times of day, plan on standing in a line — that is how good the food is! There are fresh rolls and bagels every morning. The salads that they make are the best I have ever tasted. They are so famous that people who don’t even live around here have heard of them.

When my relatives or friends come from out of state to visit, it is a place they insist on going to get food from. The deli meats are cut the way you like, and taste better than any other cold-cuts I have ever gotten. If you are looking for a good sandwich, there is a list of them on the wall that will make your mouth water. My favorite is the Roast Beef Grande, made with their fresh roast beef, on homemade garlic bread and topped off with mozzarella cheese.

Make a point to stop in and taste some of the wonderful assortment of foods, most made right on location. Tell Herbie or Carl that Cindy sent you — they will know who you are talking about. It is a place that treats you like family!
