Holiday Inn Express Hosting JKN Roadshow

Check your attic, basement and garage and bring your collectibles!

Got collectibles? They could be worth cash.

Look through your attic, basement and garage and bring your items to the JKN Roadshow at the today, tomorrow and Sunday. Organizers are looking to purchase everything from pop culture memorabilia to figurines. They’re buying complete collections or just one item at a time.

Ken Farrell, owner of Just Kids Nostalgia, and Lou Kahn, owner of Bakertown Collectibles, have teamed up to buy your collectibles. Farrell is looking for vintage comic books, toys, memorabilia from movies, Mickey Mouse or Howdy Doody collectibles. He’s also looking for 8x10 photos from movies and television shows, pinback buttons such as those that say, “I Like Ike,” and "Nixon for President.”

Those non-political buttons could be worth money, too, such as Superman, Batman, Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers buttons. He’s buying bubble gum cards and baseball cards, vinyl records and advertising store displays, such as those that say "Buy Your Beatles Record Here."

Farrell has been running a memorabilia business in Huntington for the past 32 years. He also has an online business.

“We buy the best of the best inventory for our customers,” Farrell said. “We’re always looking for the best merchandise and it just so happens that the merchandise is in the hands of people.”

Your items may be worth more than you think.

“One movie poster may be worth thousands of dollars,” Farrell said. “A whole collection might be worth $100,000. We’re there not only to appraise everyone’s material and help them understand what they have, but we’re there to buy the materials on the spot.”

Lou Kahn runs an online business and has a warehouse in West Hempstead. He specializes in figurines such as Hummels, Lladros, Royal Dalton and much more.

“In these tough economic times, people need money,” Kahn said. “Some things go up in value the longer you hold on to them, some don’t. For example, Hummel collections go down in value. That’s because the older generation loved Hummels and the younger generation don’t care for them. Things like old comic books go up in value.

“People have no outlet for their stuff,” Kahn continued. “Their kids don’t want it and their grandkids don’t want it. We’re the white knights.”

This is the second time Farrell is running a show like this. Kahn partnered up with him for this year’s event.

“We’ve done it before with great success,” Farrell said. “The last one we did was in the Marriott in Uniondale.”

This year’s host will be the Holiday Inn Express in Lynbrook.

“We’re happy to host the event,” said Michael Morash, manager of the Holiday Inn Express. “We hope it will be a success and bring people in to the Lynbrook community.

The JKN Roadshow takes place today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If your collection is too large, the pair does do house calls. Just give a call and make an appointment.
