Lynbrook Business Named Official Moving Company of New York Islanders

South Shore Storage Centre's parent company enters into corporate partnership with NHL team.

A-1 First Class — Viking Moving & Storage, Inc., which owns on Merrick Road in Lynbrook, was named the "Official Movers of the New York Islanders" on Tuesday. The corporate partnership will render benefits to both companies through cross promotion, giveaways, and advertising.

It was a year of amicable meetings, according to Matt Schwartzberg, president of A-1 First Class, kicked off by an Islanders home game that was sponsored by A-1 last year. The result? An opportunity for both to cooperatively expand their clientele on Long Island. For example, families using A-1 First Class to move anywhere on Long Island will receive a Islanders welcome package, containing free tickets to a game at Nassau Coliseum.

"We try doing things like this to build long term relationships with our clients," Schwartzberg said. The company also came up with the "Spotted On the Move" promotion, which offers tickets to anyone who spots one of A-1 First Class' 20 vans that will be decorated with the Islanders' logo on it. Contestants must tweet the time and location, or post it on the team's Facebook page.

Dave Decina, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the New York Islanders, helped negotiate the agreement from the Islanders' end along with his superiors, describing it as a "new type of partnership," compared with an estimated 150 others to which they are already committed. Decina said that "being able to put their brand out on trucks," is a way of reaching new and old customers. Indeed, many of these vans will be making passes through Lynbrook on their way to the South Shore Storage building, the facility owned by A-1 First Class.

Islanders Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Justin Johnson released the following statement: "We are all very excited that A-1 First Class is moving onto our team. A-1 First Class brings a great service to Long Islanders as a first-rate business that helps grow our local communities. We're looking forward to supporting the infrastructure of our towns and cities with this innovative partnership."

Additional promotions include "Movin' On Up," in which randomly selected fans will have their seats upgraded to those in sections closer to the ice, as well as deals on moving services for season ticket holders.

A-1 First Class is headquartered in East New York and has been in business since 1948. Its business is conducted mainly in Nassau County, Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Its Lynbrook warehouse has over 300 storage units and a fully-staffed sales office.
