The book, which will be released on April 17, is about two hamsters named “Waffles and Pancakes,” who were bought from a pet store on the same day, but are treated differently by their new owners. The book aims to teach children that material possessions aren't everything.

“Pancakes has a lovely new home to play around in with wheels and tunnels. Waffles only has a small box. But when Waffles and Pancakes meet up again, they realize that there are more important things than material possessions,” the back cover reads.

Springsteen has lived in Lynbrook for 48 years. She said she wrote the book in 1989 and can’t recall what inspired her to write it. Her two kids, Rebecca, 17, and Daniel, 14, said they loved the book as kids, so she sent it to a publisher about a year and a half ago and they decided to publish it.

"They really love the moral that this story tells," she said.

Springsteen also writes poetry and has received several awards for her writing. She have been writing since she was in her teens, spending many years researching and writing about parenting teenagers for various publications.

If you like the first book, stay tuned because there will be a sequel: “The second one on bullying because it’s very huge deal today,” Springsteen said.

“Waffles and Pancakes” will be released by Tate Publishing on April 17. Books are $8.99 with free shipping and can be purchased on Amazon or at Cindy’s website or Facebook page.
