Fraternity brothers turned business partners Dave Schutte, Chris Scheno, Chris O'Donnell and Arthur Frasca are about to celebrate a major milestone in East Meadow.

The Adelphi University grads, owners of The Nest Bar & Lounge, will commemorate their one-year business anniversary Saturday, Sept. 21, with complimentary food and drink specials. DJ Taken will be spinning songs of the 70s, 80s and 90s all night.

Schutte, who lives in Malverne, said opening the bar was a long time dream.

"We've talked about it since college but we started getting serious about the idea about three years ago," he said. "We were all on vacation together at a fraternity reunion and made the decision to actually do it."

A host of East Meadow Chamber of Commerce representatives, including current and past presidents Dolores Rome and Millie Jones, hosted a ribbon cutting Tuesday at the bar, where Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilman Gary Hudes and new town clerk Nasrin Ahmad joined them in congratulating the guys on this past year's success.

East Meadow welcomed these college buddies with open arms. "We opened a place that is very unique and the locals really took to it right from the beginning. We have such awesome regulars, they're like family now!" Schutte said.

Scheno, of Seaford, added, "Business this year has been very exciting. We'd certainly like to thank the East Meadow community for their continued support. Our 'nestlings' are the best!"

The Nest "hatched" at 382 A East Meadow Avenue last September. The bar's logo, created by O'Donnell, who lives in Levittown, features four chickens atop a nest enjoying a cold one. The "retro pop culture inspired interior" offers a laid back vibe for patrons (or "nestlings" as the guys call them) looking to unwind.

The bar hosts karaoke every Monday night; "Beermageddon" on Tuesdays with $20 open taps between 9 p.m. and midnight and EJ's "Creeper" wings; open mic night welcomes all kinds of acts on Wednesdays; Team Trivia is featured on Thursdays; and live acoustic music takes center stage at The Nest every Friday. Nothing but football is on the flat screens every Sunday, with $30 of unlimited domestic and tap beer and food to enjoy while watching the game.

"We really appreciate the people of East Meadow and the surrounding area welcoming us into their neighborhood and helping us make this dream not only a reality, but a success," Schutte said. "It feels good to be a part of this community and we look forward to many great years to come."
