NY American Water Hires Operational Risk Management Specialist

New York American Water, which has headquarters in Lynbrook, has announced that Dimitrios “Jim” Orphanides has joined the company as an Operational Risk Management (ORM) Specialist.

 In this role, Orphanides will be responsible for developing and implementing company safety programs, practices, activities and training. He will also "investigate new technologies that enhance the safety and health of the company’s more than 100 employees," the company said in a release. 

Reporting directly to the company’s Vice President of Operations Brian Bruce, the company said that Orphanides will have responsibility for the company’s compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations. As part of his regular activities, he will conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards, and compile, analyze, and interpret data related to safety performance, the company said.

Prior to joining New York American Water, Orphanides was the Environmental Health and Safety manager at WeRECYCLE!, LLC and he also worked at Worldwide Flight Services as Safety and Environmental Director as well as Canon U.S.A., Inc., as Safety and Compliance manager.

Orphanides holds a master’s degree in environmental technology, and a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering technology, both from New York Institute of Technology, where he also serves as an instructor in the Environmental Technology department. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and has earned certifications from a variety of institutions including the OSHA Training Institute, American Society of Safety Engineers, Harvard School of Public Health and the National Safety Council.

New York American Water operates at 733 Sunrise Hwy. in Lynbrook. The company supplies water to customers in Malverne, Lynbrook, Lakeview, parts of West Hempstead and other nearby communities.
