Our Town Serves Best Pancakes in Malverne-West Hempstead

Malverne restaurant wins Readers' Choice award.

If fluffy pancakes are what you're craving, then you must head over to in Malverne.

"They are very fluffy," says owner Jerry Carter, but don't just take his word for it.

Listen to the majority of Patch readers, who voted in this week's With 47 percent of votes, Our Town Grille won the award for best pancakes in Malverne-West Hempstead. ( in West Hempstead was the runner-up.)

At this cozy, old-fashioned-style diner located at 303 Hempstead Avenue, you can enjoy whole wheat or buttermilk pancakes, and even opt to have fresh fruit, like strawberries or bananas with nuts, cooked inside.

"Some places just put the fruit on top, but we put everything inside," Carter says.

Carter opened Our Town Grille in 2000 with his partner Richard Fisichello. The restaurant has become known for its cozy, 50s-style setting and homemade comfort food. In addition to its varied breakfast and lunch menus, which include freshly baked muffins, homemade corn-beef hash, soups and local butcher-ground burgers, there's an ice cream station featuring 14 flavors.

When asked why his eatery was a favorite among Patch readers, Carter said, "It's a down-home restaunt, everything is homemade, made from scratch.

And he adds, "I feel we give that little personal touch."

Next week, Patch will be looking for the best florist in Malverne-West Hempstead. Nominate your favorite in the comments space below and come back Monday to start voting!
