A possible strike at Stop & Shop supermarkets has been delayed until Monday.
Long Island Business News (subscription required) reported that an emergency union meeting on Thursday to discuss a possible strike was delayed. Should workers next week vote to strike, some 1,100 meat, seafood and deli workers at Stop & Shop stores would take part in “job actions” against the grocery store chain, which has a West Hemsptead location at 50 Cherry Valley Road.
The workers are part of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 342.
Kate Meckler, director of communications for the union, said workers would like to come to a fair agreement and have membership vote on a new contract as soon as possible.
“But until Stop & Shop proves that they are serious about taking care of their workers, we will remain on track to hold a strike vote,” she said.
