Around 6:45 p.m., 21 Long Island Power Authority customers in West Hempstead, near Peninsulva Boulevard, lost power. The strong wind gusts led to two power outages -- one in Malverne near Ocean Avenue and another in Lynbrook near Union and Atlantic avenues -- around 6 p.m. These outages impact roughly 24 LIPA customers in Malverne and more than 50 in Lynbrook.

A crew has been assigned to the outage in Lynbrook and power is expected to be restored there by 9:30 p.m., according to LIPA. Malverne residents affected by the outage near Ocean Avenue may have to wait longer. LIPA reports that a crew has not yet been assigned to this area and power isn't expected to be restored until 11 p.m.

LIPA customers can report an outage or receive power restoration updates by texting OUT to 695472 (myLIPA). This requires one-time registration. Customers can also visit LIPA's Storm Center online or from a mobile device or call 1-800-490-0075. When reporting an outage, LIPA encourages customers to use the option of providing a phone number so that it can call them back when service restoration updates become available.
