Learn more about this empty West Hempstead lot.

The iconic but empty red barn situated on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead is heading to auction early next month.

The vacant Dairy Barn drive-thru convenience store that closed after going bankrupt will head to the auction block on Dec. 8.

The United States Bankruptcy Court tapped David R. Matz & Co., Inc. a week ago to auction off the 9,151-square-foot property located at 271 Hempstead Avenue, next door to the Capital One Bank branch.

"It's a great location," Richard Maltz, VP of the firm's Estate Auction Division, told Patch, adding that a prospective buyer could open up their own drive-thru convenience store here or completely re-develop the property.

The annual real estate taxes for the site are estimated to be $14,300. As of now there are no opening bids on the property, according to Maltz, but anyone interested in bidding must register and present a certified check in the amount of $25,000 made payable to "Robert L. Pryor, Esq., as Chapter 7 Trustee."
