Wraptor Provides Healthy and Affordable Food Options

The grill and rotisserie appeals to young adults with lighter choices and low prices.

Wraptor Rotisserie and Grill was created with one idea in mind: provide healthy food options, especially for school-aged kids.

The local eatery, which stands diagonally from , specializes in making healthy wraps. By providing inexpensive food that is fresh, students who decide to dine out during their lunch break can go to Wraptor for a feel-good alternative to fast food and pizza.

“There were no healthy options in walking distance,” owner Debbie Kapoor said.

To help encourage students to come in for a lighter lunch, Wraptor offers student specials until 4pm during the week. Several menu items are served at reduced prices for students, including a lunch special that costs only $3.50 ($4.00 with a beverage).

With televisions in the dining area, Wraptor provides not only better meal options but a comfortable and fun atmosphere for kids to relax during their breaks from class.

“The kids like [Wraptor],” Kapoor said. “They eat wraps and salads. Plus, it’s affordable for them.”

Because of Wraptor’s popularity with teenagers, there is a possibility that the restaurant may become a franchise throughout Long Island. Locations near colleges in the area would be helpful for supplying healthier food to young adults.

In addition to wraps, Wraptor also serves paninis, burgers, ribs, frozen yogurt and more. The shop is also known for its wings, which come in 16 different varieties. All of the wing sauces are homemade.

Kapoor has decided to remodel the interior of the eatery after being open for almost a year and a half. Remodeling will begin on Thursday. Both the exterior of Wraptor and the original artwork of a former employee and 2008 Lynbrook High School graduate, Courtney Miller, will remain.

The dinosaur theme at Wraptor will not change after the interior remodel. Kapoor has always felt that the restaurant’s name and prehistoric décor would be appealing to kids.

“I did it because dinosaurs are cool, so that’s where I thought of the name,” Kapoor said. “‘Wraptor and wrap’ – I thought kids would enjoy it because it’s something fun.”

The eatery's dinosaur theme and healthy choices have proven to be successful. Kapoor’s daughter, Kiran, lost 50 pounds from eating a reduced calorie diet, including whole wheat wraps with grilled chicken from Wraptor.

“[Kiran] was eating pizza or bagels every day,” Kapoor said about her daughter’s old ways. “Now she eats a wrap for lunch every day. She’s into health.”

Another one of Wraptor's appeals is its website. The site allows customers to view the menu and place orders online. Diners can choose from takeout or delivery and the date and time at which the order should be ready. With an electronic “guest check,” Wraptor’s website makes ordering food online convenient and fun.
