It's a busy Tuesday in Malverne and West Hempstead. Here are the top things you need to know for today.

  1. Fire Commissioner Elections: It's Fire Commissioner Election Day in West Hempstead and Lakeview. Residents in both these fire districts can vote from 6p.m. to 9p.m. at their respective firehouses. Each district will vote for one candidate on its fire commission, which is comprised of a total of five officials. In West Hempstead, current Commissisoner Ralph Nicholes is running unopposed for another term. Lakeview Fire Commissioner Grant Cartolano has decided not to seek another term and newcomeris running unopposed for Cartolano's seat.
  2. District 12 and 1 Board of Education Meeting:The Malverne Board of Education holds its monthly business meeting tonight at 8 p.m. in the library.The Valley Stream Central District 1 Board of Education meets at 8p.m. at the Memorial Junior High School cafeteria. All district residents are welcome to attend.
