#79- Find Time For Family Movie Night

Malverne and West Hempstead offer free film showings for residents.

Let's go to the movies...without paying the pricey admission or waiting in line.

Both Malverne and West Hempstead hold several free film showings throughout the year that residents can enjoy.

For instance with the highly anticipated release of the final Harry Potter film this week, the village of Malverne is offering its young residents a chance to catch-up on the wizard's past adventures. They will show the early films in the series Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night at 8 p.m. at Village Hall.

Only July 18, they will be showing the 1954 film "Rear Window," followed by Disney-Pixar's "Up" on July 22 and "Secretariat" on July 25. Click here for details.

The West Hempstead Public Library also provides local residents with the chance to see new and classic films. This month they will be showing "The Tourist" on July 22 and on Aug. 12 residents can watch "The Fighter."

The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead is also a great place to see movies. In mid-August, it will be hosting the Israeli Film Festival.

Both communities also occasionally have outdoor movie nights at local parks. West Hempstead recently showed the feature cartoon "Despicable Me" and on July 22 the Malverne Youth Board will showcase a film that has yet to be determined at Harris Field at 9 p.m. Stay tuned for details.
