#86 - Bike Ride to Gaddis Park

Enjoy the beautiful weather at this park in the Westwood park of Malverne.

What better way to enjoy the sunny skies, cool breezes and blooming flowers around the neighborhood than aboard your two-wheeler or tandem bike.(Someone has to have one of those!)

Nestled near the Westwood train station is the perfect pit stop for that family bike ride - Gaddis Park. (Some of you might refer to it has "Westwood Park.")

The green space is located just off of Foster Avenue and Motley Street. Here, kids can park their bikes and play on the juggle gyms, swings or basketball court. They can also ride up the paved pathways or older children can even go "off-road" on the dirt bike trails or small hills.

There's also a history lesson hidden inside. Challenge your kids to find the small plaque dedicated to Hamilton Gaddis, the first elected mayor of Malverne who governed the village during a very tumultuous time. Reports say that through his wise fiscal decisions, Mayor Gaddis was able to steer the village through the Great Depression and save it from bankruptcy. The park was dedicated to him in 1971.

A place that promotes good ol' family fun and preserves community history definitely deserves a spot on Patch's Top 100 list of "Things To Do in Malverne and West Hempstead." (Check out what other activities have made it so far by clicking on the links below.)

So put on your helmet and get a group together to cycle through the neighborhood to take advantage of the spring weather.

Oh, and don't forget to take along a camera so you can upload your fun photos here or on our Facebook page.
