  1. Combating Childhood Obesity: The West Hempstead School District, Nassau County and Stop and Shop recently teamed up to help educate parents about steps they can take to improve their kids' health. Experts met at the supermarket's store in West Hempstead for a special forum, sharing strategies to prevent weight gain, and encourage healthy eating and exercise. Get the video report later today.   2. School Budget Scrutinized: Residents of the Malverne School District attended an open forum to discuss the proposed 2011-2012 budget Tuesday night. School officials welcomed comments and suggestions from the taxpayers and did say more cuts could be coming. Get the full story later today.
  3. Fashion Show: West Hempstead students will strut down the runway tonight modeling the latest fashions while fundraising. The show starts at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
  4. Souper Scavenger Hunt: There's still time to get involved in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish's annual Souper Scavenger Hunt. Create or join an existing team to participate in this fun, feel-good event, which will take place this Saturday, April 9 between noon and 3 p.m. Teams will have two hours to hunt down non-perishable food items by visiting homes in the village, earning points along the way for prizes. It will all be collected for the parish's food pantry. To pre-register and learn more click here to be directed to the Web site for the Malverne Civic Association, which is partnering with OLL. Those who can't play the game can donate food when the teams ring your doorbell or leave it outside your home for collection.
