Dec. 3: Budget Cafe, Creche Blessing, Thanking Sandy Heroes and More

A look at the top stories for this Monday in Malverne, West Hempstead and Lynbrook.

Here are the top five headlines for Dec. 3.

  1. Budget Cafe: The West Hempstead School District is holding its first budget cafe of the school year tonight at 7:30 p.m. in West Hempstead High School. Come out to discuss and help shape the 2013-14 school budget.
  2. Sandy Heroes: Malverne students and faculty held a special reception Friday to thank local firefighters, police officers, DPW workers and village officials for their service throughout Superstorm Sandy. Look for Patch's coverage later today.
  3. Creche Blessing: Lynbrook will hold its annual Blessing of the Creche tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of Merrick Road and Blake Avenue.
  4. Village Board: The Lynbrook village board will also hold its first work session and business meeting of December 2012 tonight. The work session will start at 7 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 8 p.m. Look for the agenda later this morning to see topics will be discussed.
  5. Rape-Murder Case Update: Nassau County Attorney John Ciampoli announced Friday that a judge ruled in favor of Nassau police officers in a case related to the 1984 rape and murder of a teenage girl that occurred in Lynbrook. Learn more later today.
