Do You Have Discolored Water, Low Pressure?

Long Island American Water is flushing distribution system for next week and a half.

If you're seeing some discolored water or experiencing low water pressure in your home today, it is perfectly normal, according to officials at Long Island American Water.

The company will be flushing the water distribution system in Lynbrook, Malverne, West Hempstead and Lakeview from now until April 15, part of its regular maintenance to remove mineral deposits and sediment from the pipes.

Long Island American Water reports that the flushing will not affect the water quality, but residents who'd prefer not to use discolored water should let their faucets run until the water comes out clear. Discolored water may continue to run in some areas longer than others.

Officials recommend storing a large bottle of water in the refrigerator for drinking. If you need to do laundry, make sure your clothing isn't stained before putting it in the dryer. If it is, immediately rewash it with a heavy duty detergent and add rust remover.
