Feb. 10: Water Woes, Weekend Guide, Valentine's & More Things to Know TODAY

Your daily guide to the top stories and events happening in Malverne and West Hempstead.

The busy week continues in Malverne and West Hempstead with a much-anticipated meeting tonight, a look at how residents spent their Super Bowl Sunday (Hint: This has nothing to do with football) and resources to prepare for the upcoming weekend, including Patch Picks for the top local romantic restaurants to celebrate Valentine's Day.

Here's the list of the top stories and events for Feb. 10:

  1. Tapped Out: The day many Malverne residents have been waiting for has arrived. It started nearly two weeks ago with a Facebook group, then and now the brown water flowing into sinks and tubs in residents' homes has seeped onto the nightly TV news (twice) and grabbed the attention of other press. But the problems with rusty water have been going on for years for several homeowners in the area, who will have their chance tonight to voice their concerns and questions directly to the president of Long Island American Water at the Click for details regarding the meeting and if you can't make the event, but have a question you'd like to ask, send it to Tara.Conry@Patch.com.
  2. Griddle-Iron, Souper Bowl Sunday: Take a look through the View Finder this afternoon to see how some Malverne and West Hempstead residents spent Super Bowl Sunday giving back, celebrating community and indulging in stacks of delicious pancakes. On Feb. 6, the West Hempstead Lions Club and families from in Malverne, both held Pancake Breakfasts to bring their communities together and raise funds for the causes they care about. Meanwhile, across the parking lot, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, members of the youth ministry collected donations after each Mass for a local soup kitchen. Take a look at the photos from the day.
  3. Make Weekend Plans: We know it's only Thursday, but it's never too soon to start making plans for the upcoming weekend. Today Patch has your to the local events and activities taking place this Saturday and Sunday. 4. Dine With Your Valentine: Guys, if you haven't looked at the calendar yet, Valentine's Day falls on a Monday this year, which means couples may choose to celebrate over the weekend or wait till the actual holiday. Whatever day you pick to take your spouse out for a night on the town, make sure you reserve a table early. Later today, Patch will have our picks for romantic restaurants in the neighborhood to dine with your Valentine.
