Here's a quick look at the stories that made headlines today on Patch and the events taking place in the community.

  1. Field Use Limited: After months of discussion over the language of its sports permit policy, the West Hempstead Board of Education voted Tuesday night to revise the language to limit outside groups from using district playing space. The majority of the board voted in favor of groups that are based in West Hempstead. Patch will have the full story plus a recap of the entire meeting later today.
  2. More Flushing: The Long Island Water Company will resume flushing hydrants in Malverne and start working on those in West Hempstead and Lakeview today. Cold weather forced them to halt the process yesterday, along with a main break in Malverne. The aim is to clear out sediment from the entire system in order to diminish the tap water discoloration in homes in the area. They will start at the Southern State Parkway and proceed north into West Hempstead and Lakeview. Stay with Patch for more updates.

  4. Alexander the Great: The Malverne Mules are heading to the playoffs, having earned the top spot in their conference with an undefeated record. Leading the charge since the very beginning has been senior Corey Alexander, although the starting forward considers himself more of an assist-man.
