Today, the Mules continue their playoff run, we look at the candidates in the running for Malverne's village elections, and fill you in on the arrest of a man cops say had been on the run after a West Hempstead bank robbery.

Here's the top five things to know for Feb. 24.

  1. Mules Look for Big Win: The Knicks may have "Melo" but we have the Mules, who finished the season undefeated in their conference and are looking to go all the way. Malverne's varsity boys basketball team are in the Section 8 Class B Finals after their over East Rockaway. They will take on the Wheatley Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. today at C.W. Post for a chance to advance to the Long Island Championship. If you can't make it to the court to support the Mules, Patch will have full coverage of the game tonight.
  2. West Hempstead Bank Robbery: A Hempstead man who was arrested earlier this week as he fled the scene of a robbery at a Garden City bank has also been charged for holding up the Capital One in West Hempstead on Feb. 17. for the full story.
  3. Meet the Candidates: There's only 20 days left till residents of Malverne will cast their votes for mayor, two trustees and village justice. You may have started to see campaign signs popping up in store windows in town, but Patch wants to help  you get to know the candidates better.
