Free Summer Pet Adoptions, Pools Open

A weekly look-in at news from around the Town of Hempstead.

The Town of Hempstead announced this week that all pet adoptions will be free at the town animal shelter from June 17 to Sept. 14 for the town’s annual “Summer of Love” pet adoption program.

In addition to having the adoption fee waived, all residents taking home a shelter dog or cat will receive free spay/neuter, rabies vaccinations, age-appropriate shots and microchipping (all cats will be tested for feline AIDS/leukemia). Local veterinary hospitals and pet groomers will be also providing free coupons for each pet that is adopted from the shelter during this time.

Island Trees Veterinary Hospital, located in Hicksville, will provide a free exam and $25 coupon toward a veterinary service. Dog Grooming By Rachel, located in Bellmore, will provide one free grooming for dogs and/or a free gift for cats.West Hills Animal Hospital, located in Huntington, is offering a free exam (if pet is brought in within two weeks of adoption).

Hempstead Town outdoor pools open for the season this weekend.
