Make the most of your weekend with these local events.

There is plenty of egg hunting to be found in our area this weekend, along with some interesting performing arts events and much more.

We've scoured the communities of Malverne, West Hempstead, Rockville Centre, Five Towns, Lynbrook and Long Beach, as well as the surrounding areas to find the best events happening near you this weekend.

There's something for everyone. Find a local attraction that fits your taste or maybe try something new!

A Trio of Egg Hunts

 West Hempstead

 Where: Cornwell Avenue School, 250 Cornwell Ave in West Hempstead

What: Easter Egg Hunt

When: Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m. 

Why go: The event, sponsored by the West Hempstead Lions Club, promises everything from games and raffles to meeting the Easter Bunny!  Make sure the kids have their own baskets for the hunt.

Age: 9 years and younger

Cost: free

Long Beach

Where: Long Beach Recreation Center

What:  50th Annual Long Beach Easter Egg Hunt 

When: Saturday, April 16 - *see schedule for times according to age

Why go: The staff of the Recreation Center will scatter thousands of plastic eggs across the fields and the children will search for them in age-appropriate increments. A golden egg will also be added to mark the milestone anniversary, and the child who finds it will receive a giant Easter basket — one of the 25 prizes that will be handed out on Saturday. 

*The hunt kicks off at 10 a.m. for children ages 3 and under, and resumes every half hour for the next age group:  4-year-olds 10:30 a.m. / 5-year-olds 11 a.m. / 6-year-olds 11:30 a.m. / 7-year-olds 12 p.m. / 8- and 9-year-olds 12:30 p.m.

Rockville Centre 

Where: Rockville Centre Recreation Dept. soccer field

What: RVC Easter Egg Hunt 

When: Saturday, April 16 at 9:30 a.m.

Why go: A tradition that shouldn’t be missed. There will be special ‘prize eggs’ to be on the lookout for too.

Age: all

Cost: free

 Lights, Lanes, Bowling Action

Where: San-Dee Lanes, 342 Hempstead Ave. in Malverne (www.sandeelanes.com)

What: Laser Bowling

When: Saturday, April 16 from 10 p.m.

Why go: A guaranteed good time made even better with fun lighting and great music. An added bonus is the stylish footwear that accompanies this fun night out!

Cost: $6.50per game and $3.30 for shoes

 Wake and Shake

Where: Rockville Centre Recreation Dept., 111 N. Oceanside Rd. www.rvcny.us/rec.html 

What: Zumba Class

When: Saturday, April 16, 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Why go: Find out what the new craze in fitness is all about. Zumba is a fun, engaging workout that appeals to people with all different levels of physical fitness.  Pay-as-you-go is the perfect way to get acquainted with this type of class. Be sure to wear smooth-soled sneakers and work-out wear.

Cost: $5 per class, pay as you go.

 Afternoon Cabaret

Where: Long Beach Public Library

What: New York Cabaret Unlimited will perform “More of Loesser” the music and lyrics of Frank Loesser.

When: Sunday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m.

Why go: This performance showcases the talents of  singers Michele Abrams, Rebecca Axelrod, Michael Fisher, and Gary Skidmore; bassist Geoff Morrow; narrator Linda Levine; writer, arranger, pianist Walter Levine. There will be music from “Guys and Dolls”, “Where’s Charlie?”, “Most Happy Fellow”, “How to Succeed in Business” and many more of your favorite shows.

Comedy for a Cause

Where: Temple Emanuel in Long Beach, 455 Neptune Blvd. Contact Ken at 516-816-3045 with questions.

What: “Make-A-Wish Foundation” Benefit

When: Saturday, April 16, 8 – 10 p.m.

Why go: Featuring music, comedy and refreshments, there will be a little something for everyone at this fun-filled evening. ‘Elvis’ and ‘Rodney Dangerfield’ will be making appearances as well as music from the 50’s through the 70’s and Broadway hits too. And even better, it’s for a great cause.

Cost:$35 per person

Shakespeare Meets Elvis 

Where:  Elmont Public Library, 700 Hempstead Tpke. in Elmont

What: BroadHollow Theatre Company production of "All Shook Up"

When: Saturday, April 16, 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 at 2:30 p.m.

Why go: A new take on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” set to songs by Elvis Presley. It’s set in small Midwestern town in the 1950’s.

Cost:  Pre-purchased: adults are $25, seniors are $23, students are $18. All tickets at the door are $28

Ballet With Attitude

Where: Adelphi University Performing Arts Center, 1 South Ave. in Garden City

What: Dance Adelphi Presents: The Who’s Tommy: A Rock Ballet

When: Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. and again at 8 p.m.

Why go: Dance Adelphi combines the 1969 concept album with guest artist Christopher Fleming's award-winning choreography to create an electrifying rock ballet.
